The Mountain America Forgot
High in the Sawatch Mountains sits one of Colorado’s most mysterious and forgotten landmarks. Mount of the Holy Cross once drew thousands of pilgrims a year, inspired by William Henry Jackson’s legendary photograph and Thomas Moran’s paintings. In 1929 it was even declared a National Monument—yet today, almost no one visits.
